Fund for the Community

The Fund for the Community supports the many needs and opportunities that shape our community, from safe and affordable housing and healthy families to vibrant arts and culture, protected natural spaces, quality education, and places for recreation and gathering.

Twice per year, area nonprofits apply for grant funding through our Community and Youth Grant cycles. In recent cycles, the Fund for the Community has helped Habitat for Humanity expand affordable housing, Manna Food Project provide nutritious food for local families, and North Central Michigan College create new opportunities for education and career training. They've supported improvements to local parks and ballfields, expanded access to adaptive recreation through Challenge Mountain, helped bring music and art to our community, and supported efforts to protect our natural resources.

For nonprofit partners like Manna Food Project, these grants make a difference in their ability to serve our neighbors."Community Foundation grants provide critical support that helps us respond to the growing need for food assistance across our region. These funds allow us to strengthen our programs, expand our reach, and serve our neighbors facing food insecurity." — Carrie Klingelsmith, Manna Food Project

Unlike funds dedicated to a specific organization or cause, the Fund for the Community gives the Community Foundation the ability to direct resources where they can do the most good, even as our community's needs and priorities change.

And because the Fund for the Community is endowed, it provides support for local grantmaking year after year, helping today's generosity make a difference for generations to come.

Donor Lisa Blanchard sees the value in supporting the many different things that make our community special, "I'm not a sailor but I want the sailing programs to be successful. I don't live in Alanson but I want that town to have a nice playground. I wasn't harmed by the ice storm but many neighbors were. Community Fund dollars are directed as needs arise." — Lisa Blanchard, Community Foundation donor

When you give to the Fund for the Community, you're investing in all of it. The people, the places, and the possibilities that make Emmet County a community we love.
