Emergency Response Fund Supports Local Recovery Following Ice Storm
A severe ice storm recently swept through Emmet County, causing widespread damage and leaving thousands without power. In response, the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation has launched an Emergency Response Fund to support local recovery efforts.
The fund provides grant support to eligible nonprofit organizations and government entities that are delivering emergency aid to individuals and families across Emmet County. It can also assist nonprofit organizations whose operations were directly affected by the storm.
“This storm has affected our entire county, and full recovery may take weeks,” said DJ Jones, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. “We’ve seen neighbors show up for one another and organizations rise to meet urgent needs. The Emergency Response Fund builds on that collective effort—working together to provide critical support where it’s needed most.”
Examples of work grants may support include food and supply distribution, medical expenses not covered by insurance, temporary housing, utility and housing assistance, cleanup and rebuilding, and long-term community resilience planning.
While the Emergency Response Fund was created in direct response to the recent ice storm, it was established with a long-term purpose in mind. Current contributions are expected to be needed and used to support ice storm-related recovery, but the fund is designed to remain active—ready to respond quickly to future emergencies affecting Emmet County.
