Annual Gathering 2026

We had a wonderful night of celebration and gratitude at our Annual Gathering! Community members, donors, nonprofit partners, board members, and staff came together to honor the great work happening in our community and the people who make it possible. We introduced a new annual Community Impact Award honoring Maureen Nicholson for her generosity and community focused leadership through her work as a founding member of the Community Foundation and throughout the community.

Another highlight of the night came from a new opportunity for every attendee to recommend a local nonprofit to receive a $500 Community Choice Grant from the Community Foundation's discretionary fund. Our Executive Director, DJ Jones, randomly selected three submissions, with the winning recommendations going to InvestMitt Cooperative, Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, and Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan.

Newly elected Board President, Sarah Shuman, shared a few words at the event and she is thrilled to be a part of the Community Foundation. “It’s an organization that has been near and dear to my family’s heart for generations. My great-grandmother was a committed donor, and I join my grandmother and mother, a former board president herself, on the board of directors. This time at the foundation is particularly exciting as we have passed the milestone of having donated more than 70 million dollars to support our communities and are looking forward growing our flexible funding to increase our impact on projects that serve all members of Emmet County.”

We're grateful for the opportunity to celebrate what our community has accomplished together, recognize those making a difference, and look ahead to the opportunities still to come.
