Overall Goal of the Fund
This fund was created in support of education in the outdoors. The purpose of the fund is to remove monetary barriers to getting young people outdoors and in nature to learn from the unique assets here in northern Michigan and to support educators who are making outdoor activity a part of their curriculum.  Since 2007, the Community Foundation has funded dozens of trips for hundreds of young people to explore our remarkable outdoor assets.

Who is Eligible?
Emmet County schools and daycares and the not-for-profit organizations that provide outdoor education.

How Much Funding is Available?
We ask that each grant request be $500 or less.

What Can They Do with the Funding?
The funding is fairly flexible so long as it achieves the goal of helping kids learn through our natural environment. Examples include transportation costs to visit nature preserves, purchase of journals for observation activities, admission to an outdoor learning experience or educator training on facilitating outdoor education.

How Do Schools and Organizations Request Funding?
We aim to make the process as simple as possible. Please fill out the one page application available here. You may submit the application (on a separate page, if you like) by email, mail, or drop it off at our office. If there are adequate funds, applicants will receive a check within a month. The funds must be used in the manner described in the application within the current school year.
