Grants in Your Community

The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation recently awarded $102,033 to local organizations through their spring competitive cycle.  “We received a diverse group of requests,” said Sara Ward, Program Officer, “but there are trends in the needs of our community right now.”

Almost a third of the dollars granted will go to human services organizations for children’s needs, like Manna Food Project’s Backpack Program, Christ Child Society’s care kits for foster kids, and the Great Start Collaborative preschool tuition assistance program.  Another strong area of need appears to be for local families experiencing special circumstances, including support for Child & Family Services’ Foster Family Recruitment and Retention effort, the Health Department’s early childhood mental health initiative, Northwest Michigan Works! programming for high school drop outs, and Friendship Centers’ Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group.

The Community Foundation also made grants for arts performances and capacity, school needs like playgrounds, theater curtains, and science equipment, in addition to support for local farmers and farmers’ markets.  To view the complete list of recent grant awards, learn more about applying, or read about the impact of past grants, visit www.phsacf.org or call 231-348-5820.
